Book Review: Necky Goes to Brekky

I've loved children books since...well, I was a child. The dynamic illustrations and fun storylines were always so easy to get delightfully lost in.

When Dr. Luc Niebergall (fiction pen name L.R. Knight) asked me to read over and write an endorsement for his first children's book Necky Goes to Brekky, it was a no brainer!

I've been a fan of his fiction and non-fiction Christian writing for a long time now.

Dr. Luc Niebergall writes C.S. Lewis-style Christian allegory fantasy fiction that my daughters and I have enjoyed tremendously. His non-fiction books on faith, healing, and prophecy have deepened my bond with Jesus in ways that if I went into now, this blog post would be three pages long.

So when he told me he was writing a children's book, I was intrigued! I know Dr. Luc doesn't make moves outside of what God has tells him so I wondered: "I wonder why God is having him write this book."

I now know! In a world where children are constantly told that they were made without intention and at random, Necky Goes to Brekky tells them they were lovingly and intentionally made by a Creator who loves them. And that yes, they look great just the way they are!

The book follows Necky, a giraffe who is very insecure out his appearance. From his spots, to not having the luscious hair another giraffe has, Necky is lost in comparison and feeling like he's not good enough.

Though fantastic, deep, but accessible lyrical writing and absolutely delightful illustrations, children follow Necky's journey to a delicious breakfast feast and see him finally realize that he is beautifully and wonderfully made!

This book is a must for children of all ages (and frankly, adults can enjoy it, too). It's sweet and has a loving message that God made you, you are beautiful, and you were made on purpose.
