Book Review: Parable Port

I love a good kid's chapter book. My favorites when I was a kid were The Baby-Sitter's Club & the Boxcar Children, but really, I'd read almost anything I could get my hands on!

I also loved listening to Adventures in Odyssey on the actual radio at night. Parable Port, The Sower's Secret is book one in a series that reminds me so much of the zany, funny, exciting Adventures in Odyssey stories.

Finding a book that balances high-stakes adventure with meaningful faith lessons can be a challenge, but this book by Brock Eastman and Shaun Stevenson hits that sweet spot. Yes, this book CAN compete with Roblox and win.

If you're looking for a story that captures the imagination of pre-teens while reinforcing biblical truths, this is a must-read for your family bookshelf.

The story follows Anthony and his mom as they move to the seaside town of Parable Port from New York City seeking a fresh start. Anthony quickly discovers that this isn't your average coastal village.

In Parable Port, the parables of Jesus literally come to life. But what used to be a town flourishing under these living lessons has descended into chaos. In The Sower’s Secret, something is interfering with the Parable of the Sower, causing aggressive orange birds to stalk the residents and flowering vines to knock people out with mysterious pollen.

"Anthony must uncover clues, decipher riddles, and stay one step ahead of the vines to save the town before it's too late."

What makes this book so special for Christian families is how it visualizes the Word of God. By turning the "Sower and the Seed" into a tangible, high-speed mystery, it helps young minds engage with the Gospel in a way that feels fresh and urgent.

It moves the parables from the Sunday school classroom into a world of gadgets, riddles, and teamwork. Alongside his new friends (Duck, J.R., Grace, and Brooklyn) Anthony learns that protecting the "seed" of the Word requires courage and discernment.

With its blend of humor, mystery, and heart, The Sower’s Secret is a fantastic way to spark conversations about faith at the dinner table. It’s an adventure that reminds us all that when the parables come to life, everything changes.
