You're Doing Alright, Momma

Motherhood is crazy because you’re always doing so much better than you think you are. Like a million times better.
Like everything is fine and you’re going to make it and your kids are actually ok but it feels like you’re semi-failing and the water is up to your chin.
If I could go back to any stage of mom-hood from newborns to toddlers and beyond, I’d tell myself, “Relax. You’re doing great. Paper plates are fine. Fed is best even when it’s toast & cheese, nuggets, or boxed macaroni. Nom-organic apples are OKAY. No one’s judging you and if they are, they don’t matter. You’re such a loving mom. Take a shower and have some tea.”
I’d take myself out for an iced latte and dessert and just love on her. I’d tell her most of the noise is coming from inside of her mind and heart and that all is well.
I’d babysit for a few days and then every night forever so she had a best friend right there. Sometimes I wonder how much of the stress we face as moms could be solved if we had our childhood best friends across the street.
Tell yourself you’re doing a great job and that everything is fine, if you need to. Because you are.
Everything is actually ok and you’re doing great.
Good job, momma.
